PSHE (REACH)

At our school, we follow the Kapow Primary PSHE scheme, which helps children learn all about themselves, their relationships and their place in the wider world. It supports children’s personal, social, health and emotional development from Early Years through to Year 6, helping them grow into confident, kind and responsible individuals.

Through Kapow, children learn important life skills such as how to look after their wellbeing, build positive friendships, keep themselves safe, and make thoughtful choices. Each lesson builds on the last, helping children to understand who they are and how they can make a difference in their community and beyond.

National Curriculum Links

Although PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is a non-statutory subject, our curriculum fully supports the aims of the National Curriculum (2014) and the statutory guidance for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), and Health Education (DfE, 2019).
Through the Kapow PSHE scheme, our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to:

  • Stay healthy and safe, both physically and emotionally.
  • Build positive relationships, showing respect and empathy towards others.
  • Understand and manage emotions, developing resilience and confidence.
  • Make responsible choices about their behaviour, lifestyle and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to society, understanding their rights and responsibilities as citizens.

Our PSHE curriculum also links closely with other National Curriculum subjects such as Science, Computing, and Citizenship, helping children make meaningful connections across their learning.

British Values

Our PSHE curriculum also helps children understand the British Values of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. These values are explored in age-appropriate ways through stories, discussions and class activities.
We often connect our whole-school assemblies and Friday Celebrations to the themes from our PSHE lessons, giving children the chance to share what they’ve learned and celebrate how they are showing these values in everyday life.

REACH and Learning for Life
Our PSHE lessons are shaped by our school’s REACH values — Respect, Equality, Aspiration, Community and Harmony. These values are at the heart of everything we do, guiding how we learn, play and treat one another.

We also link PSHE learning with our Learning for Life skills — Noticing, Thinking, Speaking and Listening, Teamwork and Perseverance. These skills help children become curious learners, good communicators and supportive friends who don’t give up when things get tricky.

Our Aim

Through Kapow PSHE, we aim to give every child the knowledge, confidence and empathy they need to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives — helping them to REACH their full potential and become thoughtful, responsible members of society.
