Computing

At our school, we follow the Teach Computing Curriculum, which gives every child the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We want pupils to see technology not just as something they use, but as something they can understand, shape and create with. Through carefully sequenced lessons from Early Years to Year 6, children explore computer science, digital literacy and information technology in engaging and practical ways. They learn to think logically, solve problems and use technology safely and creatively — skills that prepare them for life in a digital society.

  • Our Computing curriculum follows the National Curriculum for Computing (2014), which aims to ensure that all pupils:
  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have practical experience of writing computer programs to solve such problems.
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, to analyse, solve problems and present information effectively.
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

The Teach Computing scheme is designed around these key aims, offering a clear progression of knowledge and skills across all year groups. It provides hands-on experiences with coding, multimedia projects, digital research and online safety, ensuring every child develops the confidence to use technology thoughtfully and responsibly.

Learning in Action

In computing lessons, children might create digital art, design a simple game, program robots, or explore how the internet works. They also learn about the importance of online safety, understanding both the benefits and risks of the digital world and how to make positive, safe choices when using technology.

Children develop key digital skills such as:

  • Using computational thinking to solve problems logically.
  • Creating and editing content using software such as word processors, spreadsheets and presentation tools.
  • Understanding how technology works — from simple algorithms to the systems that power the internet.

REACH and Learning for Life

Our computing lessons are underpinned by our REACH values — Respect, Equality, Aspiration, Community and Harmony. Pupils learn to respect others online, use technology with equality and fairness, aspire to be creative digital learners, and work together as a community both in class and online.
We also build our Learning for Life skills — Noticing, Thinking, Speaking and Listening, Teamwork and Perseverance — into every lesson. Whether debugging a tricky program, collaborating on a digital project or evaluating online information, pupils develop problem-solving, communication and resilience that extend far beyond the computer room.

Through the Teach Computing Curriculum, our pupils become confident, capable and responsible digital citizens — ready to use technology to learn, create and make a positive difference in the world.
