This is a reminder of what to do when your child is unable to attend school.
If your child is unable to attend school, it is your responsibility to:
- Call school to inform us not later than 9:30 in the morning.
- Call every day your child does not attend unless you have informed us they will be absent for more than one day.
While the majority of children are attending well, we have had an increasing number of times when we do not know why children are not in school. If a child is not in school, it is our legal responsibility to know where they are. This means we have to keep trying to contact parents until we know. Sometimes we are not able to get in contact with a parent. In these circumstances, we are obliged to check on the safety of the child which could mean walking around to the child’s home or calling the police to ask for a welfare check.
Please help by letting us know when your child is not in school. You can always send a written note into school if you cannot call. Messages from a child, another parent or communication sent on Class Dojo are not suitable.
Thank you for your help with this. It will make a big difference to the smooth running of St Thomas School.
