With the snow that was forecast for the end of this week it is worth reminding people about the arrangements just in case we see any bad weather over the next month or so. We will endeavour to keep the school open through periods of bad weather as long as it is safe to do so and there is the correct ratio between staff and children.
We will also try to keep you informed with as much notice as possible if for whatever reason the school needs to close. During a snowy morning I need to hear from members of staff whether they can get into school safely. We have a large number of staff who live outside of Exeter and conditions can be very different even within a mile of the school.
Advice is also being given and this needs to be taken account of in any decision to remain open. Any decision to close the school needs to be made by the head teacher and the Chair of Governors. If conditions are bad enough to consider this a decision is often made by about 7:30am and then it will be on the radio, local news and the school’s website (www.stthomasprimaryschool.co.uk ).
Please could I ask the you do not phone the school to ask if we are open until after 8am as this means that other calls can not be made and slows down the decision making process. Keeping an eye on the school’s website will give you the quickest response to a decision to close the school.
